I think the new way of linking the course automatically to an event looks great!
WOPEC (Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre) provides continual educational training to optometrists throughout the UK in the form of hosted events and distance learning courses, many of which qualify for CET points that are required to maintain professional status.
The WOPEC web application is a business in a box solution that manages all aspects of the courses and events, including a course builder, event manager, online booking and online assessments for the distance learning lectures and even dynamically generated CET and course certificates for qualifying individuals to download in Acrobat PDF.
Further details of the extensive features too numerous to list here are in the main WOPEC project page.
When Cardiff University School of Optometry approached us to design the website for their newest venture WOPEC (Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre), we jumped at the opportunity.
Housed in a beautiful new state of the art building in Cardiff, the WOPEC headquarters needed an equally impressive website to match their world leading facility.
The beauty however, is not merely skin deep. Behind the website lies a complex database driven web application that helps run the business. Features include:
The event manager allows easy planning of events with a point and click interface capable of organising days of lectures, practicals and assessments to 15 minute interval accuracy.
The booking manager automatically generates timetables and booking forms, quietly recording all registrations and ensuring no-one overlaps their time or books an event twice.
To help prepare for events, intelligent mailing lists of attendees can be viewed and downloaded, along with automatically generated visitor badges and event door pockets.
At events attendees badges are scanned along with the door pockets using wireless barcode scanners that upload information to the website for processing attendance.
The assessment manager makes it easy to create assessments for users to take online, the results from which are stored and used for individual and statistical analysis.
The promotion manager allows easy creation of special promotions, with accompanying pseudo-random code sequences of up to 20,000 codes that are uniquely managed to prevent the same code being used by more than one user.
Promotions can be used to gain access to otherwise secure courses, events and assessments and once claimed are always available to that user when logged into the site.
New visitors with promotional codes are guided through registration, to ensure vital data is recorded, before being returned to their promotional destination.
